Position and Class: Assistant Teacher-Rainbowfish

Start Date at Kids First: March, 2004

Education and Training: Some college; experience with children since 19. Ran in home daycare; 14+ years at Donald O Clifton/Gallup Daycare Center

Experience with Children: Babysitting experience when I was 11-19; loved on kids ever since. Raised two nieces (one for ten years and one for five years)

What do you love about your job: Helping children learn and seeing the light of joy and an excitement in their eyes and faces when they can say “I did it!” for the first time.

Faith walk: I was saved at 7 ½ and baptized at First Bible Baptist Church. I attended church off and on until 13, then I was hurt by rude teens at a church. I told God if His people are as mean as the worldly people, then I didn’t see any point in going to church. I prayed and read the Bible some, but didn’t return to church again until I was 29 years old. Then, God tricked me back to Church in July of 85 and I have been serving Him ever since. 1985-1998 I attended Garden View Assembly of God. When it closed its doors in Feb of 98, I began hunting around for a new body to belong to, but nothing was close so I didn’t start going anywhere until 2008. I now attend First Baptist Church of Lincoln and really love serving Jesus here at Kids First.

I have taught Sunday School, Rainbows, ran the church nursery, and been the SS secretary and bookkeeper (some of these all at the same time). I have also sung in choir and performed in an Easter pageant.

Experience with Children: 20 years as a Public School Teacher (kindergarten), 4-H leader, Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher, Awana Leader, Preschool teacher.

What do you love about your job: I believe God has given me a gift to work with children. I believe that God is in the classroom with me helping the children learn, helping me as a teacher meet each child’s needs and differences, and to develop and grown in their relationship with Jesus. I pray for them each day.

Faith walk: I am a born again Christian. I accepted Jesus as my Savior when I was five years old. Our faith was tested when our daughter contracted Lyme Disease and was sick for eight years. She was bedridden for two years. She is doing much better. To God be the Glory!

April 2004

Education and Training: I received my degree in Inclusive Early Childhood Education (birth through 3rd grade) in December 2008 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  I am CPR, First Aid, and Health Safety certified too!

Experience with Children: I have worked with kids for 13+ years.  I started babysitting when I was 12 and have loved kids ever since.  I have taught Sunday School, worked at camp, been a teacher’s assistant, done various practicums and student teaching, work at the Lincoln Children’s Museum, etc.  If there is something to do with kids, I’ve probably done it!

What do you love about your job:  Everything!  I’ve worked here over 5 years now and it seriously is a joy to come everyday!  I grew up with these kids in some ways (as I started when I was 19) and the kids who were in kindergarten then are just about to be 5th graders.  I love that they feel like my family and there isn’t really anything good that happens now that I don’t want to rush over and share with them first just like they were my own brothers and sisters!  I love playing games, being silly, having fun, going on field trips, playing outside, and laughing with them a lot.  Plus, we have a stellar school age staff who love the kids as much as I do!

Faith walk:  God got a grip on my heart when I was 5 years old but for many years I went to church because it was the good Christian thing to do. My junior year of college, God radically transformed my life and I haven’t been the same ever since.  He showed me what it was like to follow Him and not just a set of rules and how His intense grace covers me when I fail (which is quite often).  I love to pray and am more than happy to pray for any need you might have.  I have loved experiencing God with the kids here and love that they teach me everyday how to have faith like a child.

God works in amazing ways!
